No one wants to pay for fonts. Websites like Dafont.com and 1001freefonts.com offer hundreds of thousands of fonts which can become very overwhelming to look through. On many Fridays, I will offer five great fonts that can be downloaded for free.
The phrase “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog 0123456789” will show you every letter of the alphabet, including numbers. Some fonts unfortunately do not include special characters or numbers.
Birds of Paradise
A nice semi-formal font that unfortunately does not include numbers. This font would be good for initials & signatures, wedding invitations or a customized greeting card. Download
Indy Pimp
A funky font that has only upper case letters. If you want to distinguish which letter should be capitalized, make the first letter in the word slight larger than the letters following it. This font would be good for band logos, party invitations or playbill covers. Download
Zag Regular
A quirky twist on the normal san serif font. This font would be good for party invitations, club flyers and restaurant promotions. Download
Champagne
The perfect calligraphy font. This font would be good for wedding invitations, monograms, anniversary cards and used for anything girly. Download
Big Brother
Another all caps font. It is not over the top, but it has just enough grunge to appeal to everyone. This font would be good for t-shirt designs, band posters and custom event flyers. Download
How to install a font onto your computer:
- Click on the download link of the font that you would like
- Save it to your desktop
- Right click the font’s zipped folder (Most of the time fonts will come in a zipped folder, if it isn’t zipped, skip to step 5)
- Extract the file to the desktop
- Right click the actual “.tff” file
- Click “Install”
- Give it a few seconds for the computer to load the new font. Your programs should now recognize the newly installed font and you will be able to search for it in the font drop down menu. Still don’t see the font? Try restarting the program.
